#3 Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past #4 Monroe

ARNOLD, MD – The No. 3 Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-5 victory over visiting No. 4 Monroe Community College Sunday afternoon at Siegert Field. Seven different Riverhawks recorded at least one goal, with six recording a multiple-goal game.

Madison Hobbs led the way with four goals and three assists, scoring on just four total shots and corralling a team-high eight draw controls. Madison Shaner added four goals and an assist. Eva McCormick recorded three goals and an assist, while Savanna Reitz also picked up a hat trick to go with four draw controls.

Defensively, Hope Castaneto recorded a career-high five caused turnovers, and goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans only had to make two saves, both coming in the second quarter.

AACC jumped out to a four-goal lead and led, 5-1, after the first quarter. The Riverhawks scored seven-straight goals in the second quarter, giving up just one to the Tribunes with just over a minute to go in the half to carry a 12-2 lead into halftime.

The teams traded goals early in the third before the Riverhawks closed out the frame with back-to-back goals. AACC added two more in the fourth to make it 18-4 before the Tribunes got one back. Reitz closed out the scoring with under three-and-a-half minutes to play.

AACC held a 14-10 advantage in groundballs and was successful in four of five free-position attempts. The Riverhawks held Monroe scoreless three free-position attempts. AACC outshot their visitors at a 26-12 clip, and led in draw controls, 15-11. The Riverhawks caused half of Monroe's 22 turnovers while committing 16 of their own.

AACC will face No. 1 Harford for the second time in nine days when the Riverhawks travel to Bel Air for a 4 p.m. game on Thursday, April 14. AACC won the previous matchup, 17-14, in Arnold.
