NJCAA Region/ District B Champions in OT

The Pioneers overcame a season of injuries and disappointing losses, and managed to win three of their last four games to enter the tournament at 6-7. To reach the crown they would need to battle dragons, lions, and finally some fierce fighting owls.

In the first round play-in game the Pioneers traveled to Howard CC on Saturday, May 26 where they eliminated the Dragons, 13-11 and earned a spot in the final four. They returned to Columbia, Md. the following weekend and pulled off a 10-9 win over the Nassau CC Lions, N.Y. (Region XV) then moved on to meet Harford in the championship.

AACC had a chance to win it in regulation on a shot by Olivia Pittman with five seconds remaining, but the Fighting Owl's goalkeeper Rachel Smith made the save forcing the game to overtime.

Harford midfielder Emily Nosek struck first with the only goal to be scored in the first half of the six- minute overtime. The Pioneers took control in the second three-minute session, but it looked as if the game would go to a sudden victory period when Olivia Pittman scored on a free position shot with just one second remaining. Pittman earned the tournament's Most Valuable Offensive Player award, and AACC goalkeeper Brittani Biddinger was named Most Valuable Defensive Player.

The champion and runner-up advance to the national championship hosted by AACC May 10-11, 2014.
