CCBC Catonsville Tops Softball in Twinbill

CATONSVILLE, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team dropped a Region 20 divisional doubleheader at CCBC Catonsville Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals won the first game, 9-1 in six innings, before taking the second, 12-4 in five innings.

Addi Hurst went 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI on the day. Chelsea Coleman hit two doubles in six at-bats, and Grade Mozloom went 2-for-4.

Game One

Makayla Blake opened the scoring by driving in a run with a single in the second inning. Catonsville responded with a two-run double in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. The Cardinals scored single runs in the third and fourth before erupting for four runs in the fifth on a three-run home run and an RBI single to right. Catonsville capped the scoring with an RBI double in the sixth.

AACC pitcher Kendall Thomas shouldered the loss giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 15 hits while striking out four and walking three.

Game Two

Catonsville carried a 2-0 lead into the third before a lead-off home run sparked a seven-run inning. Two runs came across as bases-loaded walks, but the Cardinals also totaled four hits in the frame.

AACC rallied for four runs in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of three errors among four hits. With one out and runners on the corners, Alexys Gardner reached via error to plate Madison Conlon. After a quick out, Hurst drove in two runs with a single, and Thomas followed with an RBI single to center.

Catonsville added two runs in the bottom of the inning on a double and an infield groundout.

Blake got the start in the circle for AACC and went three innings. She allowed nine runs (seven earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out one. Brooke Lucente-Watson finished out the game with three runs on five hits while striking out one.

Next up for AACC (2-2) is a home doubleheader against Howard on Saturday, March 16, at noon.
