ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team fell to number one seed Potomac State in the opening game of the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Tournament Thursday. The Catamounts won the game, 3-0, in five innings.

Potomac State (39-2) scored twice on four hits in the bottom of the first and plated the third runner in the bottom of the third. Taylor Townsend drove in two of the runs with a single and a double. She finished 2-for-2 at the plate.

AACC (22-14) had runners in scoring position in the third and fifth innings, but could not get a run across.

Riverhawks pitcher Jaclyn Nevins struck out five in five innings of work while allowing three runs on five hits. Ryann Brooks and Kaleigh Hurd collected hits for the Riverhawks, with Hurd hitting her fourth double of the season in the fifth and Brooks perfectly dropping a bunt in the first.

Brianne Stocks moved to 19-0 after striking out nine and walking one in the complete-game win.

The game continued into the sixth before an injury forced the umpires to declare a complete game reverting back to the fifth inning.

Potomac State will face second seed Hagerstown in game three at noon on Friday, May 13, 2022. AACC will face Chesapeake in game four at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
