ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team totaled 23 hits on the day in a sweep of visiting CCBC Catonsville Saturday, winning game one, 6-0, and game two, 14-5 in five innings. The wins snaps a 22-game winless streak against Catonsville, and marks the first win over the Cardinals since April 16, 2012.

Alyssa Smith and Ryann Brooks each cranked out five hits on the day. Smith went 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run, driving in eight runs. Brooks went 5-for-8 with a double and a pair of runs batted in.

Jaclyn Nevins threw a complete-game shutout in the opener, holding the Cardinals hitless until the fifth inning. She struck out 17, allowed two hits, and walked just one batter. Kaleigh Hurd evened her record with a complete-game win in the nightcap, striking out three while allowing five runs on seven hits

In the opener, Smith drove in a run in the first inning with a double to right center. Skylar Storm led off the second with a solo home run to left. Later in the inning, Hurd drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle. Smith capped the scoring in the fourth with a two-run homer to left.

AACC put up at least three runs in every inning of the second game, starting with four in the first with three doubles among four hits. Smith hit a three-run triple in the second, and the Riverhawks added four in the third as Brooks drove in two with a double, Smith sent on across with an infield single, and Sierra Fowler drove in another with a groundout to third.

Catonsville took advantage of a Riverhawks' error in the fourth to score three runs on three hits before Hurd struck out the final batter to end the threat.

AACC tacked on three more in the fourth on a passed ball and an error, scoring two with two outs. A two-out, bases-loaded single in the fifth sent two Cardinals across, but AACC tagged out the third runner to end the threat.

The Riverhawks, winners of six in a row and nine of the last 10 games at home, hit the road Monday, April 11 in a non-conference doubleheader at Rowan South Jersey-Gloucester.
