Nevins, Softball Sweep Harford

BEL AIR, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team swept host Harford, 2-0, and 6-2, Monday in Maryland JUCO action. Pitcher Jaclyn Nevins threw a one-hitter in the first game of the day and earned a save in the second.

In the opener, Nevins struck out nine and walked one in the complete-game win. She came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth of game two, getting out of the inning with a looking strikeout. She allowed one hit in the seventh inning and ended the game with another looking strikeout to total nine K's on the day.

Kaleigh Hurd and Alyssa Smith each went 3-for-6 at the plate on the day with Smith scoring three times to Hurd's two. Courtney Maurer drove in two runs on a 2-for-6 day. AACC was perfect on the base paths with five steals on five attempts, led by two from Courtney Croson.

AACC (3-3) got on the board in the top of the first of the day's first game on a double steal, and only managed one baserunner until the seventh with Nevins led off with a double, advanced to third on a Sierra Fowler pop out and came across to score on a Maurer sac fly to left for the 2-0 final.

Harford took the lead first in the nightcap, scoring two in the bottom of the third on an RBI single and a double steal.

AACC cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout from Maurer. The Riverhawks retook the lead with three runs in the sixth, scoring runs on a Skylar Storm RBI single and a Ryann Brooks double.

Sacrifice flies in the seventh plated two more for the Riverhawks, who cruised to their fifth-straight win over the Owls.

Hurd got the game two start and her first win of the season, striking out seven and allowing two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings.

AACC returns home Wednesday to host Brookdale in a 3 pm doubleheader.
