Volleyball Drops Three Weekend Matches

ARNOLD, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team dropped three games on the weekend, first falling at home to Allegany, 3-0. In a Saturday tri-match at Northern Virginia, the Riverhawks lost to the host Nighthawks, 3-0, and to 10th-ranked Monroe, 3-0.

Allegany jumped out to a considerable lead in the first game of Friday's match. In the second, AACC went ahead early, 7-2, and held on to the lead until the Trojans tied it up at 18-all. Allegany took its first lead at 21-20, quickly adding to its lead. At game point, Mia Keen and Josalin Courtney had a momentum-shifting block to keep AACC in it, 24-23. Lluvia Owens-Pabon played a decisive kill on the next point, but it was ruled out of bounds after discussion between the umpires. The Riverhawks led early in the third game, but the Trojans caught up at 8-8, and scored the final five points in a row to win the match.

Jaymee Green had nine kills in the match, while Owens-Pabon filled the stats sheet with four kills, two assists, two blocks, 13 digs, and an ace. Keen finished with 19 assists, five digs, and two blocks. Emily Poole led the team with a pair of aces t go with two digs and four kills.

The 10th-ranked Mustangs hit .347 during the three-set win Saturday at Northern Virginia. AACC's offense totaled just six kills in the match, but did benefit from four service aces in the match – two from Keen, one from Owens-Pabon, and one from Meena Woodson. Game scores were 25-14, 25-5, and 25-7.

Saturday afternoon against Northern Virginia, AACC's offense was more potent, seeing Keen register a season-best eight kills to go with 10 assists and three aces. Green had 11 digs, four kills, and three blocks. Game scores were 25-12, 25-23, and 25-15.

AACC returns to Jenkins Gym Tuesday evening to host Baltimore City in a non-region match at 7 p.m.
