No. 1 Butler Tops Volleyball in Region Semifinals

BUTLER, PA -- The No. 1 Butler County Community College volleyball team topped fourth seed Anne Arundel Community College, 3-0, in the 2022 Region 20 Division III Semifinals Saturday. The host Pioneers swept the Riverhawks, 3-0, en route to claiming the Region 20 title later in the day.

Sabrina Sheppard and Megan Helinski were named to the All-Tournament Team. Sheppard led the Riverhawks with 18 kills, seven digs, and a pair of aces. Helinski recorded a double-double with 19 assists and 12 digs. Anelae Reluya added 11 digs and three kills. Jaymee Green aslo had 11 digs to go with a pair of kills.

Set scores were 25-17, 26-24, and 25-11.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle until the teams were tied at 16-all. Butler then allowed just one Riverhawks point the rest of the set. AACC led the second set by as many as six points, holding a 12-6 lead early on. Butler chipped away and saw AACC tie it at 17-17. Butler went up again, but after AACC tied it at 23-23, the Pioneers were forced to take a time out to regroup. Tied again at 24-all, a Riverhawks service error put the Pioneers ahead and Butler closed out the game with a block. The Pioneers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set before AACC climbed back to within one, 7-6. It was all Butler after that, however.

AACC closes the season with a 2-12 record.
