CSM Spoils Volleyball Sophomore Day

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 loss to visiting Division II College of Southern Maryland Thursday. Prior to the match, the Riverhawks honored their three sophomores: Sabrina Sheppard, Anelae Reluya, and Megan Helinski.

Sheppard led the Riverhawks with 11 kills, while Helinski assisted 18 of the Riverhawks' 20 kills in the match. Reluya paced the defense with 11 digs. Jaymee Green recorded four kills to go with three blocks (one solo).

Set scores of the match were 25-9, 25-19, and 25-21. CSM jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set, and AACC got within one three times in the second set before the Hawks pulled away late.

Helinski served up a 4-0 lead to open the third set, and the Riverhawks held the lead until CSM made a run from down 16-15 after a time out. Shawna Ender recorded back-to-back aces late in the set.

AACC has secured the fourth seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region 20 Division III Championship and will face top seed and national number one Butler County Community College in the semifinals at 11:30 am Saturday, October 22. The championship is hosted by Butler County CC.
