Women's Soccer to Face Suffolk in District Championship

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team is set to play in the NJCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic District Championship Saturday, October 29, at host Suffolk Community College in Selden, N.Y. The Riverhawks will square off against the Sharks at noon with a bid to the NJCAA national tournament on the line.

The Riverhawks enter Saturday's game with a 4-7 overall record, and a 3-0 record against Division III opponents. Of note, AACC has not faced a Division III opponents since September 4, a 3-0 win at Holyoke Community College.

AACC topped then No. 6 Suffolk, 2-1 in overtime, earlier this season, also at Holyoke Community College on September 3. Ryann Brooks scored the game-winner in the 108th minute.

Offensively the Riverhawks are led by forward Cassidy Smith, who has scored a team-leading five goals to go with a team-best six assists. Defender/midfielder Ryann Brooks has also scored five goals, two of them being game-winners.

Kaitlyn Kenney has logged every minute in net, posting a 2.75 GAA with a .735 save percentage. Her 10-save effort at Holyoke marked the lone shutout on the season.

AACC last went to a District championship in 2014, also under Coach Jim Griffiths in his first stint as head women's soccer coach. During his first 15-year tenure as head coach, Griffiths also brought the Riverhawks to the NJCAA national tournament on five occasions, three as a Division I squad (2005, 2008, 2010) and twice in Division III (2012, 2014).
