Women's Soccer Split Weekend Games

ARNOLD, MD – Anne Arundel Community College's women's soccer team split a pair of NJCAA DIII home matches this weekend, defeating Onondaga Community College 7-2 on Saturday before falling to Corning Community College 2-1 on Sunday.

In Saturday's match-up, Onondaga was quick to score as Riley Foti found the back of the net giving the Lazers a 1-0 lead early in the first half.  Although relentless on offense it wasn't until late in the first half that Macie Kouroupis (Crofton,MD/Arundel High School) tied it up for the Riverhawks as she scored with fifteen minutes remaining in the half.

Bailey Foust (Augsburg, Germany/Glen Burnie High School) and Haley Smoot (Severn,MD/Seton Keough High School) set the tone in the second half for the Riverhawks as Smoot assisted one of Foust's  two quick goals in the first four minutes of play.  Smoot then scored one of her own before Foust picked up a third after that.  Foust then assisted Careen Rivera (San Antonio, TX/Old Mill High School) for her first goal of the season before then scoring another - her fourth of the game.  Natalie O'Brien was able stop the 6-0 run with her goal but it was just too little too late for the Lazers as time ran out.

The Riverhawks hoped to keep the momentum going into Sunday, but were unable to find that same rhythm against the Red Barons of Corning Community College.  Jessica Hickey scored off an assist from Mackenzie Warner to give Corning the 1-0 lead.  Samantha Nimmo (Odenton, MD/Arundel High School) finished on a PK attempt with just 34 seconds remaining in the first half to tie it up 1-1.

The Riverhawks outshot the Red Barons 25-6 but could just not finish, and Hickey's second goal was enough to seal the win.

AACC drops to 1-2 on the season, and will prepare for a tough road match against NJCAA DI College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, September 6th at 4:00 p.m.
