Women’s Soccer Opens Season with 2-0 Setback vs. #8 Howard Community College

ARNOLD, MD – The eighth-ranked Howard Community College women's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals and defeated Anne Arundel Community College, 2-0, Tuesday evening at Siegert Stadium in a season-opening game for both teams.

For the Riverhawks, freshman goalie Deanna Valerien (Gambrills,MD/North County) made 10 saves.  Savannah Hill made two saves in the opening half for the Dragons and added another save in the second to keep to the Riverhawks from finding their way to the scoreboard.

The Dragons broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 51st minute when sophomore Savanna Holt sent a hard shot across to the far post just out of Valerien's reach.

AACC was outshot by Howard 17-5 and it was freshman Lydia White who gave the Dragons their second and final goal late in the game with a goal assisted by Brittany Wartman in the 82nd minute.

The Riverhawks will look to turn it around this weekend as they host two home contests starting off Saturday with a game against the Lazers of Onondaga Community College at 3:00 p.m. followed by a game against Corning Community College on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
