Women's Basketball Tops CCBC Titans

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team overcame a first quarter deficit to defeat visiting Community College of Beaver County, 68-58, in NJCAA Region 20 divisional action at Jenkins Gym Saturday afternoon.

Ayannah Goram posted her 12th double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. SeRi Miles added 16 points, while Leila Townsend finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Holly Wall led all players with 15 rebounds while adding seven points, five steals, and three blocks.

The game featured 12 lead changes and four ties before the Riverhawks took the lead for good on an Ela Simpson three-pointer late in the second quarter. The trey sparked a 7-0 Riverhawks run to close out the half with a 30-24 lead.

The Titans (2-15) got within three late in the third quarter, but AACC then went on an 11-0 run and held a 50-39 lead at the quarter break.

The Riverhawks were consistent over the final frame, extending their lead to the largest of the game at 15 on a Miles three-pointer with eight minutes left to play.

AACC (3-13) dominated down low, outrebounding Beaver County, 54-42, and outscoring the Titans in the paint, 38-16.

The Riverhawks head to Prince George's on Wednesday, February 7, for a 5 p.m. Region 20 game against the Division III Owls.
