No. 5 CCBC Essex Fends of Women's Basketball

BALTIMORE, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team dropped an NJCAA Region 20 divisional game at No. 5 CCBC Essex Wednesday evening, falling to the Knights, 94-50. Ayannah Gorham posted her eighth double-double of the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Holly Wall pulled down a game-high 15 boards to go with nine points and four blocks. SeRi Miles added 10 points and six boards.

Essex used a 16-0 run spanning four minutes in the first quarter to put a hold on the game and carried a 56-19 lead into halftime.

AACC (1-11) came out firing in the third, shooting 47.6% in the frame while outscoring Essex, 21-16. Essex's outside game fell short in the third, as the Knights went 2-for-20 from three-point range. Gorham went 5-for-7 from the field netting 10 of her 27 points in the third, while Wall was excellent on the other end with six defensive boards in the frame.

Essex rallied in the fourth for the win, holding the Riverhawks scoreless for the final 3:45 of the game.

Both teams recorded 51 rebounds, with AACC grabbing 37 off the defensive glass. The Riverhawks' season-high 34 turnovers generated 36 points for the Knights, who recorded 26 steals in the game.

AACC is back in action on Saturday, January 20, in a 1:30 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 divisional game at Montgomery College.
