Women's Basketball Closes Out 2023 at NoVA

ANNANDALE, Va. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team closed out the first half of the season at Northern Virginia Community College Saturday morning. The Nighthawks won the game, 81-55.

Sophomore Leila Townsend played all 40 minutes for AACC, leading the Riverhawks with 24 points. Ayannah Gorham added 13 points and 19 rebounds. Holly Wall pulled down 10 boards and scored seven points. Jaymee Green had 12 rebounds.

The Nighthawks (3-7) doubled up the Riverhawks in the first quarter, 21-10. AACC (1-8) responded by outscoring NoVA, 16-11, in the second quarter, led by nine points from Townsend.

NoVA increased its lead through the third quarter, and capitalized on the Riverhawks' foul troubles in the fourth to claim the win.

Both teams pulled down 61 rebounds in the game. NoVA manufactured 28 points off of AACC's 27 turnovers. The Riverhawks turned 18 Nighthawks turnovers into seven points.

AACC is idle until Friday, January 12, 2024, when the Riverhawks travel to CCBC Catonsville for a 5 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 game
