Women's Basketball Dominates Butler in First Win of Season

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team dominated Butler County Community College, 82-42, in the Riverhawks' first win of the season. Leila Townsend and Ayannah Gorham each posted 22 points in the win.

Gorham added a career-high 27 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Bianca Garin scored 20 points with five steals. Holly Wall posted her second straight double-double with a career highs 14 points to go with 11 rebounds. Wall added two blocks and six steals as AACC recorded 21 takeaways as a team – the most since 2019 when the Riverhawks tagged Camden County for 27 in Jenkins Gym on November 7.

Jaymee Green pulled down a career-high 11 boards, adding three steals and a pair of blocked shots.

AACC (1-6) came out hot, scoring 29 points in the first quarter while limiting Butler County (1-6) to just eight points on 12% shooting. The Riverhawks held the Pioneers scoreless for the first five minutes of the second quarter and to just seven points total in the frame to expand their lead headed into halftime, 43-15.

The Pioneers scored the first five points of the third quarter, but could not gain any ground throughout the second half.

AACC outrebounded the visitors by a 73-45 margin, pulling down the most boards in a game since a 74-rebound performance at Frederick on February 6, 2016.

The Riverhawks are back in action at home on Wednesday, December 13, in a 6 p.m. game against Chesapeake College.
