Women's Basketball Falls to Harford, No. 2 CCBC Essex in Weeknight Matchups

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team dropped a pair of Region 20 weeknight games, falling to Division I Harford, 87-66, on Monday, February 6, before a 104-62 loss to Division II No. 2 CCBC Essex on Wednesday, February 8.  

Four Riverhawks scored in double digits Monday against the Owls, led by 18 points and nine rebounds from Brandy Middleton. The Sophomore also had a game-high four steals. Jada Turner added 14 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Isabella Papaleonti scored 11 points to go with six rebounds off the bench, netting seven of her points in the fourth quarter. Bianca Garin added 10 points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists.

Harford jumped out to a nine-point lead early in the game, and AACC kept the margin hovering around single digits until late in the second quarter. The second half was a closer affair, but AACC could not catch up to the Owls.

Against second-ranked Essex on Wednesday, the Riverhawks held their own in the loss to the Knights, pouring in 20 points in the first quarter – the second-highest amount scored in the first quarter this season for the Riverhawks. AACC took better care of the ball in the second half, cutting their turnovers by more than 61% in the second half.

Middleton led the Riverhawks with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals. Turner added 16 points and six rebounds, while Papaleonti scored 12 points, had four boards and three helpers. Bianca Garin added eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

AACC hosts Allegany for sophomore night on Monday, February 13, at 5 p.m. in Jenkins Gym. The Riverhawks' final regular-season game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, in a 5 p.m. home game against Howard CC.
