Women's Hoops Rallies Past Westmoreland

YOUNGWOOD, PENN. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team earned its first Region 20 Divisional game with a 61-45 win at Westmoreland County Community College Saturday. Brandy Middleton recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds (12 off the defensive glass).

Middleton also dished six assists and recorded a pair of steals. Leila Townsend led all scorers with 18 points to go with eight rebounds, a pair of assists and two steals. Bianca Garin (16 points) and Jada Turner (15 points) also joined in with double-digit scoring nights. Turner added a career-high six steals. Brianna Hopkins pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds.

AACC led, 11-9, after the first quarter and carried a 29-17 lead into halftime. Westmoreland stormed back and took the lead in the third quarter, but AACC outscored the hosts, 20-8, in the final frame.

The Riverhawks held a 39-32 advantage off the glass in the game while committing just 11 turnovers and corralling 14 steals.

AACC is back in action Monday when they host Division I Harford in a 5 p.m. game. The Riverhawks then host DII No. 2 CCBC Essex Wednesday at 6 p.m.
