Women's Hoops Tops DI Harford

BEL AIR, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team defeated Division I Harford Community College, 53-39, in NJCAA Region 20 action Wednesday evening. The win snapped a six-game losing streak and marked the first over the Fighting Owls since 2010.

Isabella Papaleonti and Syrena Boone each recorded double-doubles in the game. Boone scored 15 points to go with 15 rebounds, and Papaleonti netted 12 points and 11 boards.

Leila Townsend also scored in double digits, netting 10 points to go with six rebounds.

Overall, AACC outrebounded Harford at a 55-34 margin, as the Riverhawks corralled a season-high 45 defensive rebounds.

Harford led, 16-8, after the first quarter and extended the lead to 10 points early in the second quarter. AACC chipped away with a 6-0 run as halftime approached, and headed into the break down four, 23-19.

The teams traded baskets in the third until the Riverhawks closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run, taking the lead with 38 seconds left on a Sydney Dorsey jumper.

AACC exploded for 20 points in the fourth quarter while limiting Harford to just eight points.

The Riverhawks were rock solid down low, outscoring Harford, 30-10, in the paint.

AACC closes out the calendar year with a pair of home games this weekend. The Riverhawks host Massasoit at 6 p.m. Friday before welcoming Northern Virginia for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
