Women's Basketball Falls to Div II Montgomery

ARNOLD, MD – The visiting Division II Montgomery College women's basketball team defeated host Anne Arundel, 109-43, in Region 20 action at Jenkins Gym Saturday afternoon. Isabella Papaleonti led the Riverhawks with 13 points.

Papaleonti hit three of five three-pointers in the game and added six rebounds and four steals. Bianca Garin grabbed nine rebounds – eight off the defensive glass – to go with seven points.

Sydney Dorsey and Leila Townsend each scored nine points, and Jada Turner nabbed six boards to go with three assists.

AACC opened the game on a 9-0 run all on three-pointers. The Riverhawks sank a season-high six of 14 treys in the game (42.9 %). Montgomery hit its first bucket just under six minutes into the game and came within one on an 8-0 spree. The Riverhawks held an 11-10 lead at the end of the first after a pair of Townsend free throws.

Montgomery opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run and didn't look back. The Raptors carried a 37-24 lead into halftime before exploding for 72 second-half points, mostly at the hands of Tiyanna James, who finished the game with 36 points.

Turnovers proved costly for the Riverhawks, who had to go against the Raptors' fierce press for the entire game, surrendering 62 points off of miscues.

AACC plays its next three games on the road, first in a 5 p.m. game at Division II Garrett College at 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 7.
