Chesapeake Tops Women's Basketball

WYE MILLS, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team fell to host Chesapeake, 93-67, Thursday evening in NJCAA Region 20 action. Bianca Garin and Leila Townsend led the Riverhawks with 15 points each.

Brandy Middleton recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists and four steals.  Jada Turner added 11 points.

Down one late in the first quarter, Garin stole the ball and carried it up the court where she was fouled. The freshman sank both free throws to give the Riverhawks a 15-14 lead. A held ball later gave Chesapeake back the ball for a late layup to give the Skipjacks a 16-15 lead at the quarter break.

Turner hit a jumper to open the second quarter and give the Riverhawks back the lead, but the Skipjacks went on to outscore the visitors, 35-18, in the quarter.

Chesapeake outscored AACC, 21-18, in the third, and 21-16 in the fourth for the 93-67 final.

The Riverhawks are back in action on Saturday when they host Montgomery in a rescheduled game from November 19. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
