Turner Nets Career High in Narrow Loss to Catonsville

ARNOLD, MD – Freshman Jada Turner scored a career-high 24 points Wednesday as the Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team fell to visiting CCBC Catonsville, 63-59, at Jenkins Gym.

Turner made four three-pointers in the game and pulled down five rebounds. Sydney Woodland added 15 points while Syrena Boone chipped in with seven points and 13 rebounds (12 defensive).

The game featured 11 ties and 12 lead changes and was tied at 58-58 before AACC was forced to play with four on the court for the final minute and a half of the game when a player fouled out.

Catonsville held a five-point lead after the first quarter and extended its lead to as many as seven in the second quarter before AACC closed the gap with a 6-0 run to head into halftime trailing by one, 27-26.

The two teams traded the lead multiple times throughout the third quarter, with Catonsville creeping ahead by three by the end of the stanza. A pair of free throws from Skylar Kaplan less than a minute into the fourth put AACC back in the lead, but the battle was on and the teams traded buckets and the lead before a jumper from Turner put the Riverhawks ahead, 58-57, with 2:01 to play. Catonsville tied it up on a free throw with 1:33 left, and on the next possession, AACC was whistled for a charge resulting in the diminished lineup and the Riverhawks couldn't catch up.

Both teams struggled to keep control of the ball, combining for 60 turnovers in the game, though Catonsville totaled 20 steals on AACC's 31 turnovers.

AACC is idle until January 5, 2022, when the Riverhawks travel to Delaware Tech for a 5 pm game.
