Women's Basketball Falls to Potomac State

ARNOLD, MD – After almost three weeks off, the Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team took back to the court Wednesday evening, facing visiting Potomac State College in Jenkins Gym. The Riverhawks saw three players score in double digits, but fell to the Catamounts, 82-57.

Sarah Healy continued her two-way dominance with her 14th double-double of the season, scoring 14 points to go with 16 rebounds. She also recorded a game-high four blocks. Autumn Foster-Fields led AACC with 17 points and five steals, while Sydney Woodland added 13 points and a team-high four assists. Caitlyn Stanbery matched her season high with nine points to go with three steals.

Potomac State jumped out to an 11-3 lead, but AACC chipped away at it to trail, 19-17, at the end of the first quarter. AACC forced a pair of turnovers early in the second quarter, seeing a Foster-Fields layup 13 seconds into the frame knot the game and a set up the Riverhawks to take the lead on a Woodland jumper just 18 seconds later.

AACC extended the lead to as many as six before the six-minute mark of the second, but the Catamounts used a 7-0 run capped by a three-pointer to retake the lead in the span of 1:21. After a full timeout from the Riverhawks, the Catamounts started to pull away, holding AACC to just one point over the final three and a half minutes of the stanza.

Trailing 39-33 headed into the third quarter, AACC was slow to get back into the flow and saw the deficit climb to 20 as the Riverhawks were held scoreless for over two minutes.  The fourth quarter saw Potomac State pull away even farther for the 82-57 final.

The Riverhawks were hampered by an abnormal 2-for-22 day from three-point range, but did net 15 points at the charity stripe and 30 in the paint. Potomac State benefited from 34 points off of AACC's 32 turnovers. The Riverhawks recorded 15 steals on the day, a season high in Region XX competition.
