Second Half Surge Sends Men's Soccer Past NOVA

ANNANDALE, VA – The No. 6 Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team scored two second-half goals to defeat host Northern Virginia, 2-1, in NJCAA Region 20 action Friday. The Riverhawks move to 4-0 on the season.

Northern Virginia scored in the 36th minute amidst three shots on net in the opening half. Raphael Arias knotted the game in the 56th minute with the assist going to Stiven Llano Salas. John Kenny netted the game-winning goal in the 71st minute with the assist from Leyton Calzado.

Keeper Edgar Garcia made six saves in the win, including four in the second half.

AACC led in corner kicks, 6-4, recording five in the opening half. The Riverhawks committed just 10 fouls and received one yellow card in the physical game compared to Northern Virginia's 22 and three yellow cards.

The Riverhawks kick off a three-game homestand Tuesday, September 13 when they host Cecil College at 3 p.m.
