No. 6 Men's Soccer Sails Past Chesapeake

WYE MILLS, MD – The No. 6 Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team dealt host Chesapeake a 9-0 loss Tuesday afternoon. Mo Sary had a natural hat trick in the second half for the Riverhawks, including a penalty kick goal. In all, 11 players recorded at least one point, while seven different players scored at least one goal.

Starting keeper Edgar Garcia did not face a shot on net in the first half before giving way to Guilherme Borba, who made one save in the second half to preserve the clean sheet.

Davis Bosley put the Riverhawks on the board with a long ball after a failed clear attempt by the Chesapeake goalie. Juan DeNardo followed with a rebound off a header from Raphael Arias. Arias returned the favor on a beautiful set piece late in the first half, deflecting a header by Chris Koennel that was set up by a lofty corner from Stiven Llano Salas. AACC totaled nine corners in the game.

John Kenny got things going right away in the second half for the Riverhawks, completing a through pass from Terrance Espinal on the right side. Sary then got to work, first potting his own rebound before finding a pass from Matthew Sutter through a pair of defenders to score his second of the day. Sary capped his efforts with a penalty kick goal; he is 2-for-2 in penalty kicks in his career after also nailing one against third-ranked CCBC Essex in 2021.

Leyton Calzado kept things going by netting his first career goal after fending off two defenders to then beat the goalie one-on-one. Jake Vasquez capped the Riverhawks' scoring with his first career goal, a long loft after a pass back from Bosley to reset the field.

AACC totaled 46 shots in the game, with 23 going on net. The nine-goal total is the most since the 2018 season when the Riverhawks scored 12 in a road shutout win at Westmoreland on October 13.

The Riverhawks continue Region 20 action Friday in a 3 p.m. game at Northern Virginia. The meeting marks the first between the two teams since the 2019 season.
