Men's Soccer Stuns Howard in 1-0 Win

COLUMBIA, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team scored on its first shot of the game in what stood as a 1-0 win at Howard Community College Thursday afternoon. The win marked the first over the Dragons on their home field since 2015.

In the 51st minute, Nicki Llerena powered in an indirect kick just outside the box on the right side past a wall of Dragons defenders and eluding keeper Gabriel Viteri. Sam Adams picked up the assist with a tap through to Llerena to start the play.

AACC had the opportunity to take a 2-0 lead in the 78th minute on a penalty kick awarded, but Viteri made an amazing save to thwart Trevor Militello's attempt.

Shortly after the penalty kick, Llerena was whistled for a red card, leaving AACC to play a man down for the remainder of the match.

Keeper Zane Saab made four big saves in the final 12 minutes of the game to help preserve the win. Saab finished with a career-high 11 saves on the day.

AACC's last win over the Dragons in Columbia was a 7-4 victory on September 15, 2015. That season AACC finished 14-4-1 and was the Region 20 runner up. Current assistant coach Brent Orbell was a member of that squad.

The Riverhawks wrap up an arduous six-game road trip with a 4 pm game at Chesapeake on Tuesday, October 5. AACC has gone 4-1 during the span.
