No. 5 Howard Defeats Men's Lacrosse

COLUMBIA, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 5 Howard Community College, 21-6, Tuesday in NJCAA Region 20 action. AACC goalkeeper JT Lundquist made a career-high 20 saves in the game.

John McElhenny scored two goals and assisted another. Payton Williams scored a goal and added an assist. Jake Coleman, Andrew Smith, and Logan Wheeler also scored for the Riverhawks.

Howard carried a 4-0 lead into the first quarter break. McElhenny put AACC on the board early in the second quarter with an unassisted strike. The Dragons then went on an eight goal run to make it 12-1 at halftime.

Williams faked a pass and scored from long range within the first minute of the third quarter, netting the Riverhawks' lone man-up tally in six opportunities on the day. Coleman bookended two Howard goals with just over a minute left in the third, with the assist coming from Williams.

The Dragons outscored the Riverhawks, 7-3, in the final quarter. Smith closed out the scoring with his first goal of the season with 1:13 to play.

Jack Schiavone recorded a team-high eight groundballs for AACC. Brandon Grusholt caused a game-high four turnovers.

AACC is back in action on Friday, March 31, in a 7 p.m. game at Williamson College of the Trades.
