No. 4 Essex Powers Past No. 6 Men's Lacrosse

ARNOLD, MD – The sixth-ranked Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team fell to visiting fourth-ranked CCBC Essex, 19-7, Saturday at Siegert Field. Ben Wilson and Sam Kelley each scored twice for the Riverhawks.

Sam Barrett added a goal and two assists and Ryan Frick picked up two helpers, while Trevor Collier and Grant Sauls each scored once.

The teams traded goals early in the first quarter before the Knights scored a pair of man-up goals to hold a 4-1 lead. Wilson converted a pass from Sam Barrett midway through the frame for a man-up goal that brought AACC back within two. Essex then went on to score four in a row to mount an 8-2 lead at halftime.

Kelly and Collier opened the second half with goals just 35 seconds apart, but Essex scored the next five to extend the Knights' lead to 11. Barrett stopped the run with his second of the day scored with 5:28 left in the third. A two-minute cross check penalty on the Riverhawks late in the quarter allowed Essex to get the final strike for a 14-5 lead headed into the final frame.

Essex added five more in the fourth, with Wilson and Sauls scoring for the Riverhawks in the quarter.

AACC goalkeeper Chris Savani made a 10 saves. Essex held the Riverhawks to just eight faceoff wins in 29 attempts. Nick Barton solved the Knights' draw, going 2-for-2 in fourth quarter faceoffs.  

Up next for the Riverhawks, a 4 pm game at Carroll Community College on April 6.
