No. 7 Men's Lacrosse Opens With Loss to Army Prep

ARNOLD, MD – The seventh-ranked Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team opened the season Saturday at Siegert Field with a 17-7 loss to Army Prep. Ben Wilson led AACC with four goals in his Riverhawks' debut.

Army Prep led, 3-0, midway through the first quarter before using a 6-0 run across the quarter break to build up its lead to seven at 9-2.

Trevor Collier broke the streak with his first goal of the season at 10:27 in the second, but Army ended the quarter with a 3-0 run, including back-to-back man-up goals on a locked in AACC penalty to head to halftime leading 12-3.

Army Prep added three more goals before Wilson sparked a four-goal Riverhawks run with back-to-back goals just 38 seconds apart. Dylan Lavat scored his first AACC goal with 19 seconds left in the third, and Wilson capped the run with his fourth of the day at 8:39 of the fourth making it 15-7, Army Prep.

The Black Knights finished off the game by potting two more goals in the fourth.

Brandon Grusholt paced AACC's defense with five caused turnovers and seven groundballs. IN all, AACC forced 11 of Army's 24 turnovers.Riverhawks' netminder Chris Savani made seven saves in the loss, while Evan Richardson and Sean Byrne combined for nine saves for Army.

The Black Knights won the battle at the faceoff x, going 16-for-27 and outshot their hosts, 37-27. Mark Kelm won eight of 14 faceoffs for the Riverhawks. Army Prep went 3-for-4 with the man advantage while holding AACC scoreless in four opportunities.

AACC opens Region 20 action on Wednesday in a 4 pm game at second-ranked Harford.
