Golf Wins Rain-Shortened South River Shootout

EDGEWATER, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College golf team braved the elements Tuesday afternoon, winning the rain-shortened South River Shootout by 13 strokes. All competitors completed nine holes before the event was called.

Ryan Brophy tied for first with a one-over 36. He was the only golfer to card an eagle with a three on the par-five, 499-yard seventh hole.

Darren Hoffman and Tim Brophy tied for third overall, both shooting two over. Hoffman birdied the third and sixth holes, while Brophy carded back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh.

Sam Thompson placed eighth overall with a 43 (+7); he shot for par on the first, fourth, and ninth holes. Jameson Haynes finished in 15th overall with a 45 (+9) with three par scores.

Competing outside of the scoring group were Ethan Baran (+8), Jonathan Fletcher (+12), Gabriela Simpson (+14), and Addison Piechowiak (+32).

The Riverhawks combined for a score of 156. Carroll came in second at 169, followed by Southern Maryland (171) and Hagerstown (177). 

AACC has a short turnaround with a 12 p.m. Region 20 match at Oakmont Green Thursday, April 4.
