Golf Finishes Second at Region Championship

LOTHIAN, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community College golf team claimed the runner up trophy at the 2023 Region 20 Division III Golf Championships this past weekend at The Cannon Club. The Riverhawks finished second to Butler County Community College at the two-day tournament.

Carter King and Chase Kasulke earned All-Region honors with top-five individual finishes. King had a grip on fourth place after a 79 on the opening day of play. He held on with an 84 on the second day to finish with a two-day total 163. Kasulke rebounded from a day-one 86 with an 82 on the second day and earned fifth place by a scorecard tiebreak.

Connor Hackett and Ian Fitzgerald also scored for the Riverhawks. Hackett shot an 83 on day one and followed with an 89 on the second day for a two-day 172. Fitzgerald cut a stroke off his first day total on day two with an 89, finishing with a two-day total of 179. Austin Smith shot an 88 on the opening day, but withdrew on Sunday.

Troy Loughry of Butler claimed top medalist honors. He was one stroke back of runner-up Chase Richardson after day one, and shot a field-best 74 on the second day to take the individual title.

In team play, Butler held an 18-stroke lead after the first day of play and claimed the region title with a 26-stroke advantage.

AACC finished the 2022-23 season as MDJUCO champions and Region 20 runners up. Every member of the AACC team was named either All-MDJUCO or All-Region 20.
