Golf Opens Season at Cardinal Classic

Golf Opens Season at Cardinal Classic

In conditions typically reserved for The Open Championship, the Anne Arundel Community College Golf Team kicked off their season with an eighth place finish, with a team score of 338, at the Cardinal Classic at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, MD, on Saturday.

Dylan Weiss paced the Riverhawks with 78, earning a Top 25 finish. Weiss bounced back from some early struggles to play his final 15 holes at one-over par.

Diante Dozier finished just outside of the Top 25 with an 81. Austin Smith and Chase Kasulke rounded out the scoring, posting rounds of 88 and 90, respectively. Jacob Haloskey competed in his first-ever golf tournament.

The Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic University, featured many NCAA regional powerhouses and schools from as far away as Boston, MA, and Kalamazoo, MI. Weather concerns canceled the second day of the competition.

"This was a great first tournament for our team and established a baseline of what we are capable of going forward this season," said first-year coach Dave O'Donnell. "This was our first tournament as a team, and we were able to finish ahead of some teams that have the benefit of more experience and upperclassmen. I am extremely proud of how everyone performed, but I know everyone is capable of improving this season, and we can qualify for the National Championship," O'Donnell continued.

The Riverhawks return to action on April 7th, when they begin Maryland Junior College conference play at Swan Point Yacht and Country Club hosted by the College of Southern Maryland.
