Men's Basketball Splits Weekend Road Trip

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team split its weekend road trip, defeating Penn Highlands, 94-82, Friday evening, before narrowly falling to Garrett, 78-77, Saturday afternoon.

The Riverhawks erupted for 51 points in the first half against the Black Bears. Jeremiah Stroman scored 25 points and filled the stats sheet with five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Kris Peet added 23 points and eight defensive rebounds. Miles Evans netted 12 points off the bench, hitting six of eight at the free throw line.

In Sunday's game, roles were reversed as AACC trailed, 50-34, at halftime before mounting a huge comeback. The Riverhawks' defense was key in the second half, limiting the Lakers to 28 points in the half and just two points – on a late goaltending call – over the final four minutes. AACC had a chance to win the game with a three-pointer at the buzzer, but the shot just missed the mark.

Peet led all scorers with 24, netting 11 in the second half, to go with 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Stroman scored 17 of his 23 in the second half, sinking three three-pointers in the frame. Zef Fuanya added 15 points off the bench, going perfect beyond the arc with four treys.

AACC (7-12) travels to the College of Southern Maryland Wednesday for a 6 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 divisional game. The Riverhawks return home for the first time in three weeks to host Community College of Beaver County at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 3.
