ANNANDALE, Va. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team  won its second game in a row with a 61-59 victory at Northern Virginia Community College Saturday afternoon. Kris Peet had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

AACC (4-8) built up its largest lead of the game just prior to the midpoint of the second half, using a 7-0 run to take a 43-43 lead with 12:18 to play. NoVA chipped away at the lead, gaining momentum with four minutes to play when Lorenzo Snyder hit three consecutive free throws to get within three points, 52-49. The Nighthawks twice got within two points then cut the lead to one on a Corey Caulker free throw before Caulker gave NoVa a one-point lead, 58-57, with 50 seconds left on the clock.

Jeremiah Stroman sank a three-pointer after an AACC full time out to retake the lead, 60-58, with just 24 seconds left. NoVA got back within one with a free throw with 13 seconds left to play, but Peet pushed the Riverhawks back ahead by two with a free throw with nine seconds left. A three-point heave by the Nighthawks led to an offensive rebound and layup attempt, but Peet grabbed the rebound and was fouled to close out the game.

The game started with teams trading baskets until NoVA used a 5-0 run to build up its largest lead of the game, 21-15, just past the halfway marker of the opening frame. A key three-pointer from Zef Fuanya brought AACC within two, setting up two ties through the final few minutes of the opening half. Chris Thomas closed out the half with a steal and layup to send the Riverhawks into the locker room with a two-point lead, 29-27.

AACC's bench was a key contributor in the game, totaling 28 points led by 12 from Stroman and seven from Angelo Harris. The Riverhawks outrebounded their hosts, 48-39, and scored 17 fast break points to the Nighthawks' two.
