Men's Basketball Defeats Butler

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon with a 75-62 win over visiting Butler County Community College. Kris Peet recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while adding three blocks, a steal, and an assist.

Nicholas Augusterfer shot 58% from the floor to net a career-high 16 points, adding seven boards and three assists.

The Riverhawks (2-8) benefitted from 24 bench points, including nine from Angelo Harris, who hit four of five attempts from the floor. Chris Thomas nailed two three-pointers in three attempts off the bench, adding three assists.

Butler County (3-5) used a seven-point swing to take a six-point lead at the midpoint of the first half, but AACC responded with a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to take command of the game. A three-pointer by Avery Evans put the Riverhawks (2-8) up by 10 with 5:28 left in the opening half, and AACC held onto the lead into halftime ahead, 40-29.

Despite shooting 0-for-15 from three-point range in the second half, Butler managed to get within six points just past the midpoint of the frame. AACC responded with a 9-2 run, expanding its lead to 13 on an Augusterfer tip in with five minutes left to play.

AACC's defense held the Pioneers to almost 23 points below their scoring average. Butler held a 44-43 advantage in rebounds, pulling down 21 offensive boards leading to 20 second-chance points. AACC converted 16 Butler turnovers in 20 points, while the Pioneers manufactured 18 off of the Riverhawks' 16 miscues.

AACC closes out 2023 on Saturday, December 16th in a 1 p.m. game at Northern Virginia.
