Hagerstown Tops Men's Basketball

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team fell to visiting Hagerstown, 76-64, in NJCAA Region 20 action in Jenkins Gym Saturday afternoon. Jeremiah Stroman and Kris Peet scored in double digits for the Riverhawks.

Stroman finished just shy of a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds, adding four assists. Peet chipped in with 14 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Nicholas Augusterfer recorded four blocks to go with eight points.

AACC scored the first four points of the game, forcing turnovers on two of Hagerstown's first three possessions. Hagerstown (6-5) rallied to lead by six by the midpoint of the first half before AACC tied it up at 14-14 within the next two minutes. Julius Gardner sank a pair of free throws to put the Riverhawks ahead by two, and Stroman extended the lead to four with a jumper after a Hawks player control foul gave the ball to AACC. The call was one of nine player control fouls between the teams in the first half.

Hagerstown responded by holding the Riverhawks scoreless over the next 4:18 while going on a 12-0 run to retake command of the game. A three-pointer by Deondre Mitchell sent the visitors to the locker room at halftime with a 35-21 lead.

The Hawks built up to their largest lead of the game, 48-27, within the first five minutes of the second half. AACC had a couple of six-point swings and ultimately outscored Hagerstown, 43-41, on 48.5% shooting, but could not make up the difference.

AACC looks to get back in the win column Sunday in a 1 p.m. game against Community College of Allegheny County at Jenkins Gym.
