Baltimore City Fends Off Men's Basketball

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team rallied back from 13 points down late in the second half, but ultimately succumbed to visiting Baltimore City Community College, 68-60, in NJCAA Region 20 action at Jenkins Gym Wednesday evening. Sophomore Jeremiah Stroman led all scorers with a season-high 29 points to go with a career-high 19 rebounds.

Kris Peet joined Stroman in double-digit scoring with 13 points and pulled down nine boards. Stroman posted a double-double in the first half and finished the game adding two assists, two steals, and two blocks while shooting 67% from three-point range (4-for-6).

AACC played catch up through most of the first half, taking its first lead on the second of back-to-back Stroman three-pointers with 17 seconds left in the frame. Baltimore City sank the final jumper of the half to send the teams to the locker room tied at 34-34.

The teams traded the lead several times throughout the second half, seeing Baltimore City go on a 13-0 run starting at the midpoint of the half. AACC responded with an 11-2 run in the next four minutes to get within four, 64-60, with just over a minute left to play. The Panthers sank all four free throws in the final 20 seconds to hang on for the win.

The Riverhawks outrebounded the Panthers by a 55-43 margin, and AACC poured in 18 second-chance points to Baltimore City's 10. The Panthers generated 31 points off of the Riverhawks' 23 turnovers in the game. AACC left 16 points at the free throw line, going 9-for-20 in the first half and 3-for-8 in the second.

Next up, AACC faces Potomac State on the road at 3 p.m. Saturday to kick off the Riverhawks' Region 20 Division II slate.
