Prince George's Too Much for Men's Basketball

ARNOLD, Md. – Anne Arundel Community College freshman forward Malik Carroll exploded for a career-high 29 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks, but the Riverhawks fell to visiting Prince George's Community College, 87-64, in a NJCAA Region 20 divisional game at Jenkins Gym Saturday afternoon.

Carroll scored 18 of his points in the first half, shooting 8 for 13 in the frame. Jeremiah Stroman added 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists for AACC.

The teams traded three-pointers to open the game, but Prince George's never trailed in the game from start to finish. AACC chipped away at an eight-point deficit to get within two on a Carroll tip-in just prior to the midpoint of the first half, but the Owls responded with a 13-2 run to extend their lead. The Riverhawks got within single digits twice more in the half, but saw Prince George's head to the locker room with a 49-32 lead at halftime.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Stroman early in the second half brought the Riverhawks back within single digits, 53-44. A 3-for-3 trip to the free-throw line by Anthony Perry with 7:10 left made it 71-57 in favor of the Owls, who closed out the game on a 14-2 run.

The Owls benefitted from 42 bench points in the game, and shot 96% from the free throw line (22-23). Prince George's also outrebounded the Riverhawks at a 48-38 clip.

AACC, now 1-2 in Region 20 divisional play, travels to Hagerstown Wednesday for a 7:30 Region 20 game.
