Despite Hot Shooting, Men's Hoops Falls to Cecil

NORTH EAST, Md. – The Cecil College men's basketball team pulled away from Anne Arundel Community College for a 111-86 victory over the Riverhawks Wednesday evening in NJCAA Region 20 action. AACC shot a season-best 52.2% from the floor in the game.

Four Riverhawks scored in double digits, led by 21 points from Jeremiah Stroman. The freshman went 8-for-12 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers and nine rebounds. Truth Norton shot 70% (7-10) from the floor with 16 points. Jack Taylor added 11 points, sinking three of four three-pointers, and Malik Carroll added 10 points.

Cecil led early, and AACC stormed right back to take the lead, 17-16, on a Norton free throw within the first five minutes of the game. Three-straight made layups edged the Riverhawks ahead by seven, 23-16, a lead that the Riverhawks twice extended to nine before Cecil clawd back to retake the lead, 39-38, with five minutes left in the opening half. AACC roared back to tie the game, but back-to-back Cecil three-pointers were followed by a statement dunk to send the Seahawks to the locker room with a 55-47 advantage.

The Riverhawks turned the ball over on their first possession of the first half, to which Cecil answered with a three-pointer. Taylor twice sank treys to keep AACC within single digits, but Cecil extended the lead with a 14-1 run over the next few minutes and ran away with the game.

AACC held a 43-31 advantage in rebounding, corralling 31 boards on the defensive end. The Riverhawks turned the ball over 26 times, leading to 31 points off turnovers for the Seahawks, who also scored 22 fast break points in the game. AACC converted seven Cecil turnovers into eight points.

AACC closes out the calendar year at home on Saturday, December 17, in a 3 p.m. game against Northern Virginia.
