Prince George's tops Men's Basketball in Region Championship

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team fell to Prince George's Community College, 80-71, in the NJCAA Region 20 Division III Men's Basketball Championship at Jenkins Gym. Four players scored in double digits for the Riverhawks.

All-tournament team selection Jamar Young scored 15 points to go with five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Braeden Cavey added 15 points, scoring 10 in the second half, to go with six rebounds. Michael Cantrell chipped in with 11 points, three boards, three steals, and two assists, while Kanari Smith added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench.

The second half was a very close battle, featuring nine ties before the Owls pulled away, closing out the game going 11-for-12 at the free-throw line.

Prince George's started the game on a 6-0 run and maintained the advantage for much of the first half, with the Riverhawks twice getting within two before tying the game at 29-29 on a Rashod Ballard three-pointer. Two free throws gave the Owls a 31-29 lead headed into halftime.

The teams traded baskets throughout most of the second half, with the Riverhawks unable to take the lead before the Owls pulled away.

Prince George's outrebounded AACC, 52-33. Both teams shot 39% from the floor. AACC generated 15 points off of the Owls' 19 turnovers, while committing 15 turnovers of their own.

The game marked the third-straight meeting of the two teams in the Region 20 Division III Championship. AACC wraps up the season with a 10-13 record.
