Riverhawks Lose to Undefeated Lakers, 91-84

ARNOLD, MD – Anne Arundel Community College's men's basketball team fell short to undefeated NJCAA Division II Region 20 Garrett College on Saturday afternoon.  The 91-84 loss drops the Riverhawks to 2-4, as the Lakers of Garrett improve to 7-0.

Despite scoring first and claiming an early lead, it wasn't long before the Riverhawks found themselves in a constant struggle to stay within range as the Lakers seemed to find the hoop on the majority of their offensive drives. As the pattern continued, AACC headed to the locker room down 44-34 at the end of the first half.

With the second half underway, the Riverhawks began to make their stride. Some quick scoring and a big steal by Anthony Frazier (Washington, DC/Arundel) passed off to Larry Stevenson (Charleston, SC/Sigonella) for a pull up three pointer; AACC trailed by just three points with 12 minutes remaining.

Conference leading scorer, Marcus Dentley (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) drained two crucial free throws after being put on the line, and earned the Riverhawks a 62-61 lead with 11 minutes remaining.

The Lakers were able to regain composure after committing a "Class A" technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct, and once again began to pull away.  The Riverhawks then trailed by eight with 7 minutes remaining.

With some unfortunate foul trouble for AACC with just 3:30 remaining, Garrett was able to capitalized at the line, and secure the seven point win over the Riverhawks.

Sophomore trio Dentley, Frazier, and Stevenson scored 22, 20, and 17 respectively for AACC, with freshman Kodie Jackson (Fort Meade, MD/Fort Meade) scoring 15.

AACC will travel to Montgomery College on Tuesday November 22nd to face the Raptors for a NJCAA Division III Region 20 match-up.  Tip-off for the men is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
