Baseball Sweeps Delaware Tech

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team swept host Delaware Tech, 11-4 and 11-8, in NJCAA Division II action Wednesday afternoon. The series win marks the first for AACC over Delaware Tech since 2017.

AACC (16-14) totaled 17 hits on the day, led by a 5-for-7 effort from sophomore John Greenawalt, who hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Freshman Nicco Holland went 4-for-8 with six RBI and a home run. Evan Pohlman (1-for-3) and Conner Bosley (2-for-6) each drove in three runs.

Game One

The Riverhawks drew 11 walks and four hit batters in the game. AACC scored three runs in the second via walk and HBP and added another in the third with a bases loaded walk to lead, 4-1.

Delaware Tech scored one on a double to left in the fourth before plating two on a home run to left by the next batter.

Holland hit a three-run home run in the sixth to make it 7-4, Riverhawks. A sac bunt from Russell Turner moved runners to second and third for Sebastian Casanova, who sent a runner across when he reached via error.

The Riverhawks extended their lead with two runs in the seventh – first on an RBI single by Holland, and then a Bosley bases loaded fielder's choice.

Pohlman earned the win in a one inning relief effort. He struck out two and walked one. Donny White had the start, allowing one run on one hit while fanning two and walking one through two innings. Zach Ford, Holland, Jackson Burchick, and Jack Davidson each threw one inning in relief.

Game Two

The Riverhawks fended off a Delaware Tech comeback attempt in the seventh. Headed into the inning, the Riverhawks were sitting on a seven run lead. AACC got a quick first out before allowing four runs to the home team. With two runners aboard, Sam Ross took the mound, striking out one and inducing a groundout to earn the save.

AACC scored four runs in the first inning and never trailed after that. An RBI single from Holland and a two-run double from Bosley made it 3-0 Riverhawks before a passed ball on Agustin Murillo's at bat sent Bosley across the plate.

Delaware Tech scored twice in the second and once in the third, but AACC answered back with five runs in the fourth. Ross and Greenawalt led off the inning with singles to set up Holland for an RBI single. After an out, Bosley was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. White and Pohlman drove in the next two runs before Murillo plated one with a sac fly to center to make it 9-3.

Delaware Tech scored a single run in the fifth and AACC responded with two in the seventh on a Greenawalt double and another hit by pitch, this time tagging Pohlman with the bases loaded.

Starter Sebastian Casanova earned the win with two runs (zero earned) on five hits. Nolan Spring threw two innings of relief with four runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. Kyle Smoak allowed one run and walked three in 1.1 innings, and Caden Houck made his collegiate debut throwing one inning, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one.

AACC returns home on Saturday, March 30, for a 12 p.m. NJCAA Region 20 doubleheader against CCBC Dundalk.
