Catonsville Tops Baseball in Region 20 Doubleheader

ARNOLD, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team dropped an NJCAA Region 20 divisional doubleheader at CCBC Catonsville Saturday, falling to the Cardinals, 17-4 in five innings, and 4-3.

Game One

Catonsville used a 10-run third inning to break open the first game before tacking on five more in the fifth.

AACC started the scoring getting one run across on a two-out error in the first. Catonsville responded with a run of similar fashion in the bottom half of the inning before AACC turned a double play to get out of the inning.

Catonsville added a run in the second on a double to center before an Alejandro Cassanova infield ground out scored John Greenawalt in the third. Greenawalt led off the inning with a single came around to third on an error.

The Cardinals used eight hits and an error to score 10 in the third, chasing out Riverhawks' starter Jack Davidson. He took the loss with 11 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with a strikeout and two walks in 2.2 innings.

AACC scored two runs in the top of the fourth with two outs on RBI singles from Griffin Klein and Sam Ross.

Catonsville added five runs in the bottom half of the inning, getting two via bases loaded walk, and a pair of hits. Reliever Braxton Hurley struck out the final batter to end the Cardinals' momentum. He allowed six runs on two hits and five walks.

Game Two

AACC cranked out 10 hits in the second game and used a three-run fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Klein drove in a pair of runs with a bases loaded single, and a Ross groundout sent another run across.

Catonsville went ahead in the fifth via a bases loaded walk with a two-run single. A long throw from Chris Ricks in right field got the final out of the inning at the plate.

Riverhawks' starter Evan Pohlman struck out two and walked five while allowing one run in three innings. Ross took the loss with three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out three and walking four. Nicco Holland threw the final 2/3 inning with a strikeout.

AACC is back in action Tuesday, March 19, in a 1 p.m. Region 20 divisional doubleheader at Montgomery.
