Baseball Walks Off With Split Against CCAC

ARNOLD, Md.Griffin Klein hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the second to lead AACC to a 7-6 game two victory against CCAC Thursday in NJCAA Region 20 action. The Wild Cats used a big second inning to win the day's first game, 20-5.

Game Two

Conner Bosley crossed the plate to secure the Riverhawks' win after drawing a walk and stealing second setting up Klein who placed his hit right up the middle.

CCAC used leadoff error to score one run in the first, but AACC scored three runs in the second. Evan Pohlman hit a two run double to left center and then Blake Nawab took advantage of an errant throw to come across the plate.

CCAC regained the lead in the fourth with a sac fly, a single and a two-run home run. The Riverhawks responded in the bottom half as Nawab hit a sac fly in foul territory and Sam Ross hit an infield RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.

Bosley put AACC ahead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double, but the Wild Cats tied it up with a bases loaded walk in the sixth.

The Riverhawk relievers came up big in the game. Kyle Smoak struck out four and allowed one run on one hit in two innings. Logan Newland earned the win with a pair of strikeouts as AACC retired the side in order in the seventh.  

Game One

Nicco Holland hit a run-scoring single in the first inning, but the Riverhawks' lead was short lived as CCAC scored 14 runs in the second, chasing out three AACC pitchers in the process.

The Riverhawks got a pair back in the second, and scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, but couldn't catch up to the Wild Cats, who scored two in the third and four in the fourth. CCAC totaled 14 hits and 11 walks in the game.

John Greenawalt zoomed around the bases for a triple in the fourth before coming across on an Alejandro Casanova sac fly. In the fifth, AACC had the bases loaded and scored one with two outs, seeing Nawab cross on a Ross fielder's choice. 

Riverhawks starter Donny White took the loss, giving up four runs in an inning of work. Jackson Burchick and Rodolfo Llobet each took a turn in the second before Nolan Spring came on to get out of the inning. Spring threw 2.1 innings with six runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Braxton Hurley closed things out with a pair of strikeouts in the fifth.

AACC is on the road for its next four series, first facing CCBC Catonsville in a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 16.
