Baseball Splits Home Doubleheader with CSM

ARNOLD, Md. – the Anne Arundel Community College baseball team split an NJCAA Region 20 doubleheader with visiting College of Southern Maryland Friday afternoon at Skip Brown Field. AACC held on for a 7-4 win in the nightcap after falling to the Hawks, 9-0, in the first game. John Greenawalt ran his hit streak to 18 games, finishing the day 5-for-8 with an RBI.

Game One

Greenawalt was 3-for-4 in the first game. Anne Arundel struggled to get the bats going totaling only five hits. CSM piled on five runs in the second inning to take the lead and never look back. 

Xavier Thompson got the second inning started with a single and stole second. A walk by AACC pitcher Jack Davidson put another runner on. Jimmy Estarita doubled and Jaden Hendricks singled both scoring runs. Another single by Ryan Wilson brought another run in and a wild pitch brought in Hendricks. Marcos Bisono hit a sac fly and the bats did not stop for CSM.

Davidson started on the mound for the Riverhawks and went 3 and two thirds innings giving up seven hits and striking out three. Jackson Burchick came on in relief, pitching one and a third scoreless innings giving up just three. Logan Newland and Rodolfo Llobet came on after and neither gave up a hit. 

Chase Bart gave up just five hits in the complete game win; he struck out 11 and walked one. 

Game Two

The Riverhawks' bats woke up in the second game, pounding out 11 hits in the game. Greenawalt kept his bat hot, going 2-for-4 with a single and a triple to extend his hitting streak to 18 games. Sebastian Casanova went 2-for-4 with three RBI, and Donny White went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Sebastian Casanova got AACC started in the second inning with a single into left scoring White and Alejandro Casanova. In the top of the third, CSM's Yunior Pena singled to center scoring Hendricks and Rayden Deets to tie the game at 2-2.

In the third the Riverhawks retook the lead on an Alejandro Casanova single scoring Greenawalt and a single to center from White that scored Nicco Holland.

In the fifth, Sebastian Casanova singled with bases loaded to score Alejandro Casanova and retake the lead. Greenawalt added to the lead with an RBI triple in the sixth before Conner Bosley hit a sac fly to make it 7-2, AACC after six innings.  

In the seventh CSM scored on a pair of wild pitches to cut AACC's lead to three. Zach Ford recorded the last six outs for his second save of the season.

Evan Pohlman was on the bump for game two going five innings, giving up two hits and striking out nine, evening his record to 3-3 on the year. Ford went two innings giving up 3 hits and 2 runs striking out the penultimate batter for his only K. 

Tucker Duke started for CSM going two and a third giving up four runs on four hits, and striking out one. Kyle Chowaniec came on in relief giving up five hits and a pair of runs. Caleb Bean closed out the game allowing one run on two hits.  Each of CSM's pitchers walked 2 batters. 

AACC is back in action at home on Sunday, March 10, in a 12 p.m. Region 20 divisional doubleheader against Allegany.
