Three From Baseball Named All-Region 20

ARNOLD, MD. – Three members of the Anne Arundel Community College baseball team have earned All-Region 20 honors, it was announced recently. Sophomore pitcher Jacob McDonald was named to the First Team; sophomore Ethan Grieb was named to the Second Team at infield. Freshman infielder Dyllon Barrett was named to the Honorable Mention Team.

McDonald started 13 games for the Riverhawks, earning a 7-3 record and a save with three complete games thrown. He led Region 20 and ranked 14th nationally in strikeouts with 88 across 70.1 innings. McDonald's 3.84 ERA ranked third in the Region. He was named the Region 20 Player of the Month for February, when he went 2-1 in three starts with a 1.13 ERA; he struck out 22 batters in 16 innings, giving up just two runs on nine hits and walking two. McDonald threw a career-high 12 strikeout, complete game win against Montgomery College on March 10.

Grieb, who started 52 games for the Riverhawks primarily at third base, hit .327 on the season. Almost half of his 56 hits on the year were for extra bases, including a team-high 14 doubles and team-leading five home runs to lead the team in slugging percentage at .544 and RBI with 40. Grieb was quick on the basepaths, stealing 26 bases in 28 attempts. The sophomore had 15 multiple hit games, including a 6-for-7 day in a doubleheader sweep of Garrett on April 2, with two doubles, a triple, and four RBI. Notably Grieb earned the win on the mound for game two that day, closing it out with two hits while fanning four in the final three innings. In total, Grieb threw 23.1 innings in 12 relief appearances with a 3-1 record and two saves.

Barrett led the region and ranked second nationally with 45 stolen bases in 56 games with a 90% success rate as he was caught stealing just five times. On March 22, the short stop added a career-high five stolen bases in the nightcap against Bucks County to four from the first game. At the Plate, Barrett recorded 46 hits with a pair of nine-game hit streaks, and scored a team-high 44 runs. In the field Barrett, who primarily played short stop, turned 14 double plays – the most by an individual AACC player since 2017.

AACC (25-32) finished the season with the most wins since the 2012 season and advanced to the double-elimination round of the NJCAA Region 20 tournament for the first time under third-year head coach Nick Hoffner.
