ARNOLD, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community baseball team dropped a Region 20 doubleheader to visiting CCBC Catonsville Saturday. The Cardinals won the games, 4-0, and 2-0. Neither team reached double digits in the hit column in the defensive battles.

Infielder John Greenawalt extended his hit streak to six games, leading AACC at the plate going 3-for-6 with a walk on the day. He, Ethan Grieb, and Will Burchick each stole a base.

In game one, Caleb Bailey got the first hit for the Cardinals in the third, coming as a solo home run to left. Catonsville added two runs on a Alex Valdez homer in the fourth. Riverhawks starter Jacob McDonald settled down and limited the Cardinals to just two more hits through the sixth inning. McDonald struck out nine and walked one in the game. AACC reliever Shane Emerson allowed one run in the seventh.

In the nightcap, Catonsville bookended the game with single runs in the first and seventh innings. AACC twice had runners in scoring position and had their best chance to score in the sixth with runners on second and third with one out, but a pair of unlucky foul outs ended the inning.

Riverhawks starter Kyle Wortz allowed one run on two hits in the first four innings. Reliever Zach Ford allowed one run on two hits in the final three innings. The duo combined for five strikeouts.

AACC (18-20) hosts a pair of Region 20 doubleheaders this week, welcoming Hagerstown for two on Tuesday, April 11, and CCAC for a pair on April 12.
