ARNOLD, MD. – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team swept visiting Garrett College, 6-5 and 14-12, Sunday in NJCAA Region 20 action at Skip Brown Field. The Riverhawks cranked out 24 hits on the day, led by a 6-for-7 effort from Ethan Grieb.

Grieb hit a pair of doubles and a triple on the day, driving in four runs while scoring two and stealing a pair of bases. He also earned the win on the mounts in the nightcap, closing out the game allowing two hits and fanning four in 3.0 innings.

Infielder Dyllon Barrett drove in four runs on a 5-for-9 day at the plate, scoring five runs and stealing a base. Catcher Sam D'Amelio went 4-for-6 with three RBI and scored two runs.

Pitcher Jacob McDonald earned the first game win in a five-inning start, allowing one run on four hits while striking out nine and walking two. Zach Ford came on with one out in the sixth and struck out four consecutive batters before fanning the final Laker batter to earn the save. Ford allowed just one hit in 1.2 innings.

AACC scored a single run in the first and Garrett tied it up in the top of the second. The Riverhawks extended their lead with four runs in the fourth on three runs and a pair of Garrett errors. After a D'Amelio RBI single in the fifth, AACC squandered its five-run lead allowing Garrett to score four runs in the sixth on a pair of hits and a Riverhawks miscue.

The Riverhawks scored 14 runs on 14 hits in the nightcap, plating three runs in the first and two in the second to hold a 5-1 lead headed to the third. Garrett exploded for seven runs on four hits and an error to take the lead, 8-5.

AACC responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring five runs in a two-out rally to retake the lead, 10-8.

Garrett tied it up in the fifth, but AACC edged ahead in the bottom of the inning with four runs on four hits and left the bases loaded with a 14-10 lead in hand.

The Lakers scored twice in the sixth and had runners on first and third before Grieb picked off the runner at first to end the threat. He then struck out the first two batters in the seventh and induced a flyout to right to end the game.

AACC (17-18) is idle until Saturday, April 8, when the Riverhawks host CCBC Catonsville in a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
