Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Delaware Tech

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team split a home doubleheader with Delaware Tech Wednesday afternoon. The Riverhawks won the first game, 13-3, in six innings, and dropped the second, 11-1.

Alejandro Casanova hit his first career grand slam as part of a nine run fifth inning for the Riverhawks and then scored the game-ending run in the sixth. Christian Murphy went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored in the game.

Delaware Tech held a 3-0 lead after a single run in the first and a two-run single in the third. AACC got one back in the fourth on an errant throw before exploding for nine runs on seven hits in the fifth. The Riverhawks cranked out four hits before an out was recorded in the inning, capped by Alejandro Casanova's slam. The Riverhawks then took advantage of a misplay in the outfield to score a pair of runs on a Dyllon Barrett single before Murphy hit an RBI single for the second time in the inning to make it 10-3 in favor of AACC.

Reliever Will D'Antoni gave up two hits in the sixth inning and got out of a no outs, bases loaded jam to end the threat.

With runners on the corners in the sixth, Sebastian Casanova singled to make it 11-3 in AACC's favor. Landon Reyes loaded the bases via hit by pitch and Ethan Grieb drove in the final two runs to end the game.

Relieve Kyle Wortz picked up the win allowing one hit in two innings of work.

The win made it five in a row for the Riverhawks, who reached the milestone for the first time since the 2013 season.

The Riverhawks' bats fell quiet in game two as they combined for just four hits in the game. Grieb scored AACC's lone run in the sixth on a sac fly from Will Burchick. Delaware Tech led off the game with three runs in the first inning on a single and a home run before adding single runs in the second and third. Delaware Tech led, 9-0, after six, and added two runs in the seventh on Kory Pritchard double. Pritchard drove in four of Delaware Tech's runs in the game on 3-for-4 hitting.

Riverhawks starter Jordan Bonhoff took the loss with three runs on two hits, surrendering his first career home run in the first inning. Zach Ford and Jack Hogan each threw two innings of relief work before Matt Wisniewski and Nick Rees closed out the game with single inning outings. The staff combined to give up 12 hits, while striking out four and walking five.

AACC starts Region 20 action on Sunday, February 26, when the Riverhawks travel to the College of Southern Maryland for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
