Baseball Sweeps Visiting Bucks County

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team swept visiting Bucks County Community College, 4-1 and 3-0, Friday afternoon at Skip Brown Field. Jacob McDonald went the distance in game one, striking out seven in the complete-game win. In the nightcap, the Riverhawks scored two runs in the fifth on heads up baserunning and added another in the sixth when Andrew Wells hit an RBI double – the Riverhawks' lone hit of the game.

In the opener, McDonald limited the Centurions to just four hits while walking three in seven innings of work – his second complete-game win of the season.

Ethan Grieb drove in the Riverhawks' first run in the first inning, and AACC added two more in the second. First, Reed Matkins hit an RBI double then came around to score on a Nick Toskov single.

Trailing, 3-0, Bucks County got one run aboard on a two-out double in the third. AACC responded with a two-out RBI single from Brian Connolly in the fourth.

The Centurions had the bases loaded with two outs in the sixth, but McDonald struck out the final batter. AACC ended the game in the seventh with a 4-6-3 double play.

In game two, the Riverhawks struggled against righty Jordan Sesar, who held the Riverhawks hitless until the sixth.

Wells led off the fifth with a walk and stole second before Lukas Lawrence got aboard via walk. A Matkins groundout pushed the runners ahead, where each scored on consecutive wild pitches.

With two out in the sixth, Will Burchick walked and sped around the bases as Wells hit a ball to deep center.

It was pitching by committee for AACC as each arm took an inning and combined for 11 strikeouts in the game. Brady McDonald earned the win, and Andrew Leginze earned the save with a pair of fly outs in the seventh before striking out the final batter.

AACC is back in action Sunday, May 1, with a 1 pm doubleheader against Northampton CC at Skip Brown Field.
